Piano music for your wedding

The music you choose for your special day is important. You will want music that you, as a couple, will enjoy. Guests of various ages are likely to be invited – so how is it possible to cater for a wide range of musical tastes?

A typical wedding day can be split into four key areas: the ceremony, the drinks reception, the wedding breakfast, and the evening entertainment. As a professional wedding pianist, it’s not often that I am booked for the evening as many people prefer a wedding band or disco. But I am frequently booked to play for either two, or all three, of the remaining options.

Music for Your Ceremony

This is, without doubt, the most personal part of your day. As part of my ceremony package, I offer to learn almost any pieces of music that you’d like played. This is subject to the suitability of the pieces for piano performance and the limits of my musical capabilities. If you both have a ‘special song’ then this is an opportunity to incorporate a piano version into your ceremony. Love songs – such as ‘A Thousand Years‘ by Christina Perri and Paul Weller’s ‘You Do Something To Me‘- are very popular choices. The songs you choose should ideally hold meaning to you as a couple.

My standard ceremony package includes:

Guest arrival – 15-20 minutes of background music before the entrance of the bridal party

The Processional – one song for the bridal party’s entrance

Signing of the register – two songs as the register is signed

The Recessional – one song as the bride and groom exit followed by guests

I have a wide repertoire of songs available to view and you may already find that I know several of your requests. If you have specific song requirements which aren’t in my repertoire, it’s always best to outline them when first getting in touch.

Music for Your Drinks Reception

Now your guests will be in celebrating mode. Whilst you are being whisked away by your photographer to the most beautiful corners of the venue or gardens, your guests will want to be entertained.

I’ve found that a mixture of upbeat music works well here. The most common request I receive for this part of the day is for a varied selection. Songs old and new….something for everyone. Usually with the emphasis on faster, more celebratory songs such as ‘Happy‘ by Pharrell Williams and ‘From Me To You‘ by The Beatles.

Music for Your Wedding Breakfast

The beauty of having live piano music for your wedding breakfast is that it’s unimposing. I have complete control over the volume and can ensure it’s kept to a suitable level. Guests can therefore chat freely with a pianist playing away in the background.

Any songs can be played for a wedding breakfast, although you may like to choose a general theme. Click here for further inspiration and to see more of my videos.
